Day 9 - 7 / 28 Anniversary (29 February)

Another Broome day.  Carl and Ally have kindly loaned us a car for couple days so can venture further afield.  Went to Courthouse Markets not many stalls.  Checked out the 'Sisters of St John' museum which was excellent.  So much information, photos, stories about 9 nuns who sailed by boat in 1907 to Beagle Bay to start a mission for the Aboriginal children.  They did medical checks, schooling and were instrumental in setting up hospitals.  Was very interesting.  Then went to Ganthemaue Point colours amazing (pics below).

Tonight celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at Divers Tavern the other passengers.  Some are heading home tomorrow so combined farewell.

Have had lots of rain.

Day 7 Raining in Broome

Arrived 3 days earlier than scheduled.   Humidity extremely high.   Caught bus into town too hot to wander so hightailed it to Woolies to get basic supplies and back to hotel to cool off.  8pm and its raining - so long since we've seen rain!  Tonight watched sunset at Cable Beach and great seafood pasta at the Zookeeper.

Day 6 - Exmouth to Broome in 15 hours

5.00am we leave Exmouth for a 15 hour bus ride to Broome!  the rush is to get to Broome before the cyclone hits and floods the roads thereby blocking access to Broome.

I watched one movie (A Star is Born), and finished a book and got halfway through a second.  John watched a couple movies.

Day 4 - Sea day to Exmouth

Were advised previous night we were being offloaded at Exmouth as they were concerned about the effects of the two predicted cyclone and would be bussed to Broome.  Safety first!  The skipper and two deckhands would sail to Broome non stop -  3 days.

So a long day at sea steaming to Exmouth to beat cyclone.

Lovely gesture by owner of Odyssey who was travelling with us on this leg.  As we wouldn't be on boat for our anniversary as planned, he organised some strawberry champagne for us to share with everyone.

Day 3 Dirk Hartog Island

We did a 4x4wd tour today.   It was excellent.  Didn't know people actually live here.  The tour was hosted by a couple whose family have been on the island for generations.    We visited the blowholes (see video below) and other spots finishing on the Homestead where you can stay or camp.  Its very well organised and the family have some great Eco-tourism ideas including yoga retreats.  Definitely would like to go back and spend more time there.
