Day 2 - Talbot Bay - Horizontal Falls and Turtle Falls

Steamed past Koolan and Cockatoo Islands in the Bucaneer Archipelago.  Back in the 80s, this is Bondy's iron ore mining country and resort. Decommissioned in 1994, recommissioned 2016. There is now evidence of mining. Spectacular colours and scenery. Photos don't do it justice!

Everyday we have an itinerary of the days's activities

Enjoying breakfast

Odyssey have a tender called Homer which allows us to get into tight spots, it is very comfortable even has a toilet and Homer sets Odyssey apart from others who only have tinnies.

Homer always tagging behind

All aboard Homer to experience Horizontal Falls in Talbot Bay. Spectacular however we are in a 'neap' tide meaning its not a big tidal fluctuation like the spring tides. So we missed out on the exhilarating ride that we see on holiday brochures. However it did allow us to get through the narrow pinch point which is inaccessible in spring tides so not many get to see the area as we did. It was also spectacular and we got to go into the mangroves.

Horizontal Falls ahead

Excited to be heading into Horizontal Falls
Here we go - heading into Horizontal Falls

through the pinch point - mangroves

This is the 'pinch point' which is inaccessible in spring tides

Horizontal Falls - here we go

Other side of the 'pinch point' - boat capsized?

Horizontal Falls boats stored here in a safe bay until the season starts

Back to Odyssey for lunch and then fishing expedition on Homer and dinghies for those who want to fish. It was really hot and not into fishing John and I and others opted to stay onboard and relax and enjoy the scenery.

Back on Homer for a sunset cruise to Turtle Falls. Amazing and we got close enough to have a refreshing shower, our first dunk!.. Afterwards on Homer we had champagne to celebrate a passengers 65th birthday and a really nice chevice dip. Again beautiful landscapes and colours surrounded us. After a nice dinner and chocolate birthday cake off to bed. It is really hot and quite sticky. Thanks goodness our cabins are nice and cold.

Turtle Falls - our first falls and so pretty

the anticipation of our first dunk

Cheers

love the colours at sunset
